The Pick A Letter Song Challenge
Back in April, Kerry Purvis devised a most excellent writing challenge, simply to pick one letter from the alphabet and make a list of songs that start with that letter. Kerry created the challenge after thinking about songs that start with each alphabet letter. Here is Kerry’s piece:
It’s been ages since I’ve written anything (for myriad reasons), so I thought I’d get back on the proverbial horse and have a crack at a challenge before sinking my teeth into anything else.
So, where to start? I scanned through my old iTunes collection, sorted alphabetically by song title, looking for a little inspiration. There are only 15,000 songs on there, how hard could this be?! For those wondering, the first song in the list is A100 by Billy Corgan, and the last song is ZZ Top Goes to Egypt by Camper Van Beethoven.
For reasons unknown (perhaps in honour of Kerry?), I ended up in the K section, which comprises just 188 titles. And, boy are there some gems in there: Karma Police, Kashmir, Kentucky Woman, Kick Out The Jams, Killer Queen, Killing In The Name, Kiss, Knights Of Cydonia, to name just … eight!
I got stuck in the K section, in particular the KE part of the order, where I found an incredible 16 songs whose titles begin with the word KEEP. Ten of those songs are presented below. Let me know what you think of this lot!
