My Favourite Album From Every Year I’ve Been Alive (Part Four: 1999–2008)
Still discovering great music!
Welcome to Part Four in a series of stories about my favourite records. If you’ve just joined us for the journey, you can find out more in Part One, or check out the story from Paul Combs who set this behemoth task.
As I’ve keyed in the Part details for these stories, I couldn’t stop thinking about Monty Python’s The Meaning Of Life! You know how it goes, “Part I: The Miracle of Birth” all the way to “Part VII: Death”. Hysterical film!
Anyhoo, back to albums, and the events of my fourth decade. I turned 30 years old and got married in 1999. We bought our first home in 2002. I rang to tell my mum and she said “oh, so you are serious then??” referring to our relationship. We’d been a couple since early 1996, moved in together in 1997, engaged in 1998, married in 1999. But apparently you’re not serious about each other until you purchase property together!! [*sigh*] Our son was born in 2004. We did lots more amazing things (we are people that work to live, not live to work). And all through the decade I continued to thoroughly enjoy music. However, I became more selective, and didn’t purchase as much as I did in the early ’90s. I still went to as many shows as I could manage!
