My Favourite Album From Every Year I’ve Been Alive (Part One: 1969–1978)
Another challenge to dive into!
I’ve been thoroughly enjoying some recent music writing challenges, including eight desert island discs, my favourite songs from the year I turned 16, and collecting music memorabilia.
Now along comes a significant challenge, your favourite album from every year you’ve been alive, which is so big that it has to be broken up into manageable portions. Just like desert island discs and 16 at 16, this exercise is very contemplative, requiring a great deal of reflection and memory dredging. All of these challenges have been fun exercises. Over the last week or two, I’ve played records that haven’t been dragged out for many years!
So, Paul kicked off this whole thing, and many thanks to him for doing so (and I note we have a few records in common!). Then, we have had the pleasure of reading some excellent responses, lists, and commentary from Terry, Kevin, Pierce, Steve and Reuben. Hopefully there will be many more to join in.
As per other lists and commentary, the records I discuss below are not necessarily the best/critically acclaimed/best selling records of the day, they are simply my favourites. I will also do a decade at a time.
