PJ Harvey — ‘Dry’
A very quick look back at a great debut album
A little while ago, Pierce McIntyre set a writing challenge in Plethora Of Pop: to write about a favourite debut album.
I’ve been thinking about it for a couple of weeks, contemplating which record to write about, and trying to find a spare five minutes to bash something into the keyboard.
There have been some monumental debuts, just consult any ‘Top Debut Albums’ list and be reminded of (and admire all over again) the quality material that some legends managed to put out on their first record.
For me, some standout and much loved debuts include those by Black Sabbath, Ramones, Budgie, Weezer, Skyhooks, Portishead, Pearl Jam, Cold Chisel, Rage Against The Machine, and Big Star.
However, there is one record that I come back to often as probably my favourite debut, and that is ‘Dry’ by PJ Harvey.
