I really got into power pop in the nineties and naughties. Lists are always going to be contentious. I might have considered Nada Surf, Redd Kross, Jellyfish, Velvet Crush, Greenberry Woods, XTC. And of course “There are some things you can’t cover up with lipstick and powder … “

And Australian bands are often overlooked in discussions, e.g. The Stems, Hoodoo Gurus, Sunnyboys, You Am I.

But, what makes it onto a list is open for many lengthy discussions, just like the discussions about the definition of the genre itself!

I might start a weekly power pop feature record series for The Riff! But what record to start with …
