This is such a key point. Buy locally, and eat seasonally. It’s not hard to do. For my granola (muesli!), I can all ingredients made/grown in Australia. Except maybe cashews. Cereals, nuts, raisins, grown within 100-300km away. Other fruits and nuts grown elsewhere in country.
It drives me crazy when I go to the greengrocer and he’s selling out of season stuff from around the world. Asparagus is abundant in late spring and summer here, and so cheap. In winter it is imported from Mexico. The fuel miles on that is insane.
We have a ‘slow food’ movement here (not slow cooker!) that promotes buying whole foods, buying local, eating seasonally. It’s not hard to do.
